How to get in your car after you've been locked out

Assuming you don't have a spare key, there are a few ways to get back in your car after you've been locked out. You can call a locksmith, use a slim jim or coat hanger to pick the lock, or try to break in through a window. If you're feeling brave (or desperate), here's how to break into your own car.

First, see if you can unlock the car door with a credit card. If there's enough space between the door and the frame, you might be able to slide the card through and push the button on the inside of the handle.

If that doesn't work, you can try using a long wire or hanger to reach through the crack in the window and push the button.

If all else fails, you can try breaking the window. Use a blunt object like a rock or a hammer to break the glass, being careful not to cut yourself. Then reach inside and hit the unlock button.

Of course, this is a last resort option and you'll probably end up doing more damage to your car than if you had just called a locksmith in the first place. But if you're locked out and desperate, it's worth a try.

If you need to get back in your car you can always call a local towing company and have them help you get in, or even give you a ride home if you're stranded.
